Roxie Soap Bag

4 sc/inch

Gauge isn’t very important for a soap bag, but you can check gauge by working up the base as described. It would be easy to alter the pattern to make a much larger bag or purse.

Materials: Worsted weight cotton, H crochet hook (or whichever size you prefer to obtain a gauge of your liking), tapestry needle.

Abreviations:

ch= chain

st= stitch

sc= single crochet

ss= slip stitch

hdc= half double crochet

dc= double crochet

Base
Ch 15, 1 sc in each ch, then turn the chain clockwise so that you can continue sc in each ch along the opposite side of the chain. Sc along the other side of the chain, forming a round, making sure to keep stitches uniform at the corners. (It may be necessary to crochet corner stitches tighter.) Place a marker, to mark the beginning of your sc rounds. Sc two more rounds, for a total of three rounds.

Body
Round 4: Ch 2 (counts as one hdc), hdc in same st. *Skip one st, 2 hdc in next st* around. At the end of the round, ss to beginning ch, then ss in next hdc and ss into first gap between hdc pairings. This gets the yarn in the right spot to start the next round.

Rounds 5-14: Ch 2 (counts as one hdc), hdc in same st. *2 hdc in space between hdc pairings* around. At the end of each hdc round, ss to beginning ch, then ss in next hdc and ss into first gap between hdc pairings. This gets the yarn in the right spot to start the next round.

Top

(mark the beginning stitch of each round)
At the end of round 14, instead of ss, sc into the beginning ch, sc in next hdc. Round 15: *Sc in space between hdc pairings, then skip one st and sc into second hdc of next pairing* around. To end, sc in first sc and next sc.

Round 16: Ch 2, skip 2 st.s, 1 sc in each of next 2 st.s. Continue in this way, ending with a chain 2.

Round 17: *1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 dc in next ch 2 space, ch 3, ss to first st of ch 3 (forming a picot), 2 more dc in same ch 2 space.* around. End with a ss in first sc of the round.

Drawstring
Ch 65, ss in each ch to end.
